A Promise on the Horizon will be launched on Monday, July 8 at Le Centre Culturel Francophone de Vancouver,
1514 West Seventh Avenue, Vancouver V6J 1S1 from 7-9pm. All interested readers welcome!
The book has already had a pre-launch event at the Italian Cultural Centre of Vancouver where I was honoured to be a special guest — the only non Italian-Canadian writer at the annual ‘Books and Biscotti’ on June 10 along with writers Diego Bastianutti, David Bellusci, Vittorino Dal Cengio, Osvaldo Zappa, and Anna Foschi who organized and chaired the evening. I was well aware of my own temerity as an Englishwoman presenting a story set in Napoleon’s Italy to an Italian audience, but very encouraged by the friendly reception. Some good conversations with other writers afterwards. Warm thanks to Anna Foschi and the Italian Cultural Centre for including me on the programme.
Next event will be at the Dunbar St. branch of the Vancouver Public Library on July 10 from 6:30-7:30 where I will be talking about the challenges of writing biographical fiction. How far can a novelist go in recreating events in the life of a real historical individual?
